Support for equity investments |

This activity provided assistance to the Core Country Groups in
exploring issues and options related to establishing and/or increasing the
level of equity financing in energy efficiency enterprises. The
international market for these types of investments is seeing several
significant activities that may represent potential financing sources for
local companies. Equity financing is a key constraint for many of the small and medium-sized firms, such as ESCOs or small energy-efficiency technology providers, which need to develop to make the energy efficiency market thrive. However, similar to the area of guarantee funds, this is a largely new area for the energy efficiency community in Brazil, China and India. While all parties know the potential importance venture capital funds could play in expanding local energy efficiency investments, awareness of specifics and how to spur this development is low.
