UNEP's Division of Technology, Industry and
Economics (DTIE) encourages decision-makers to promote the efficient use of
natural resources, the reduction of pollution and the consideration of
environmental costs in the economy. DTIE's Energy Programme aims at inserting a longer term, environmental dimension into energy sector decisions. Activities enable decision makers to understand better the link between the energy choices they face and broader sustainable development issues. The emphasis is on building human capacities and increasing opportunities for development while contributing towards significant reductions in the harmful effects of energy production and use. Working with a wide range of partners, UNEP
helps develop and implement approaches for analyzing various energy
policies, climate change mitigation options, energy sector reform,
industrial
